Ametrine Gemstone PropertiesAmetrine is also known as Bolivianite is a beautiful gemstone and it comes in rainbow-like bands of yellow and purple. It is actually two coloured quartz that contain both Amethyst and Citrine. Its bi-coloured effect is created due to the oxidation of iron within the crystal due to exposures to differing temperatures during its crystal formation. This happens when the highest temperature forms the golden Citrine yellows and the cooler zones form the Amethyst lilacs. This beautiful and rare gemstone is a wonder of nature!

Ametrine is mainly produced in one mine in eastern Bolivia (the Anahi Mine), although there are also small deposits of it in Brazil.

Traditional legends, gemstone folklore and healing properties

Legends say that Ametrine was first introduced to Europe by a conquistador’s gifts to the Spanish Queen, after he received the Anahi mine in Bolivia as a dowry.

It is said that Ametrine combines the powers of Amethyst and Citrine in one gem and is also believed to help with headaches and backache.

As Ametrine is a combination of Amethyst and Citrine, it can be the birthstone for February and November and is also the Zodiac sign of Pisces.
